What a Monster book Fair!

When I was a little girl, I loved book fair! The day the preview magazine was passed out was pretty much the best day of school. Field Day couldn't hold a candle to Book Fair preview magazine day. I would rush home and begin to frantically circle the books that I wanted to buy at the book fair. If I just HAD to have a book I would draw five stars next to it and dog ear the page so my Mom knew for sure it was important. Of course, after I was done, the entire magazine was circled, starred, and dog eared until you almost couldn't recognize the pages! :)

So when the book fair bus rolled up outside of Ashley Elementary at the end of last week, I jumped for joy! The wonderful PTA ladies came strolling in with their streamers, paper monsters, and signs of every color - I was in Heaven!!

If you haven't seen the Book Fair this year, you are missing out. The books are fantastic ( I want a copy of every single one!). And the decorations are really cool!

So stop by the Book fair for some Monster Reads and some childhood memories!

Where in the world Wednesdays!

So as a librarian I get a lot of this - "Mrs. Whittaker, where are the joke books?" "Where are the Bad Kitty books?" "Where are the 39 CLue books?" "Where are the Science books?" Where? Where? WHERE?

So let's take a break each week to figure out the location of some really fun, but sometimes hard to find, books!

Where in the world are the sports books?

This week must be a big week in sports because I have had so many people ask me for sports books! The question I have to ask back is "What kind of sport?"

We have books about -

basketball
football
baseball
hockey
golf
gymnastics
dance
swimming
skating
ice skating
biking
martial arts
snowboarding
and a lot more!

Here at the Ashley Library you can find sports books in the Non-Fiction section under the call number 796

So the next time you are considering breaking into a new sport or maybe you just want to learn more about the one you already play, check out the 796 section!

That's it for Where in the World Wednesday!

Adios, W.

Mystery solved!

PictureEric Comstock, Mrs. W, and Mrs. Tinker
Eric Comstock dropped in to the Ashley Library today and it was no mystery that the K-3 students had an absolutely amazing time!

We were treated to a reading of his newest children's book, Charlie Piechart and the Case of the Missing Pizza Slice. Mr. Comstock has illustrated numerous books before, but Charlie Piechart is his first endeavor as an author. The kiddos loved his presentation on where characters come from and how they could create characters of their very own!

I have to admit, I was a little starstruck myself! He might be the nicest person I have ever met and maybe even the tallest! Mrs. Tinker and I had to stand on two chairs just to take a picture with him before he left. Haha! He worked so hard to sign every copy of Charlie Piechart that our students ordered - and we ordered a lot! In fact, Ashley Elementary ordered more copies of Mr. Comstock's book than any other school in the district. Way to go Ashley!

I'm Lovin' it!

People ask me everyday, "How do you like being the librarian at Ashley?" My answer is always the same - "I'm lovin' it!!"

During the first week of school, the third - fifth graders and I went on a library scavenger hunt using an App called Klikaklu. We had such a blast! Each group was able to work together to solve my clues and rediscover not only new places in the library, but some old favorites as well.

I was so impressed at how well they problem solved and how well they could remember the sections of the library. These kids really do know their stuff!

The second week of school I was so excited to meet the Kindergarten - Second graders! We read stories,  talked about book care, and decided what it meant to be a good library student. Our favorite books for this week were No T.Rex in the Library by Toni Buzzeo and You're Finally Here by Melanie Watt.

I have loved every day in the library and just can't wait to see what wonderful readers these kiddos becomes!

Happy Friday and happy reading!
