Guest post by Hunter J.Read about World War 2 because it's history and history is pretty cool! My favorite thing about WWII is the guns like the MG, the Combat MG, and the trenchgun. I like that they used them in combat and in the trenches.

I just finished reading Cece Bell's latest book, El Deafo, and I was hooked from the first page! This autobiography is funny, surprising, and best of all - it's a graphic novel! El Deafo is the story of a little girl who loses her hearing at a very young age because of a serious illness. Cece is then saddled with a very large, very powerful hearing aid that might help her hear, but doesn't help her make many friends. I loved this book because we all have things that we wish we could change about ourselves, so relating to Cece was not hard at all! You should pick up El Deafo today - you will find yourself rolling on the floor when Cece finds out just how powerful her new Hearing Aid is and cringing when..... well you'll just have to read it to see! So go on - read! Ever get that feeling that you just can't have enough books in your life?? **Nod yes** What a coincidence - I feel that way all the time! The library has a check out limit (who created that, right?) and apparently you aren't allowed to spend all your money at Barnes and Noble (as per my Husband's recommendation - he is a financial analyst). So what is an average, ordinary, everyday, awesome-sauce reader like you and me supposed to do?? Go to OverDrive, of course! "What's OverDrive?" you ask. Well, OverDrive has thousands of free eBooks and eAudiobooks that you can check out at the touch of a button! OverDrive is
"So how do I get OverDrive?" you ask next. Great question! Get OverDrive on your device by -
So download OverDrive now and get MORE books! Yay!! Talk to your super cool librarian (hey, that's me!) if you have any questions or problems! Joke of the day - What is a Pirate's favorite letter? Not RRRRRR! It's EEEEE for Ebook!! Go Overboard with OverDrive! Everyday, all across the world, adults get together and talk about what kids should be reading. They review children's books for each other, create book trailers to show to their students, and invent crazy ways to convince kids to read new and exciting (and sometimes not so exciting) books. The funny thing is all these adults know deep down in their heart that even though they might be respected and loved and some of these fabulous recommendations are beyond excellent...something isn't working. Enter, student recommendations and reviews. And here at Ashley...enter, the "Review Wall" The Review Wall was created by my Library Crew members. I explained that I would love to know which books they thought were great, funny, or even terrible! They picked out the wall, the fonts, and decided which colors matched their chosen words. I can truly tell you they rock. Totally creative and ready to just kick it into gear. They weren't finished either - they then contributed out first reviews! They said they wanted to show the others what the wall was for. This was my first true step in letting the kids lead...and man, do they lead. After three weeks, the Review Wall has turned into the "Review Column" which I love. The Crew and I talked about how funny it is that in the newspapers they actually call the movie/book/etc section the Review Column! Students from first to fifth have covered the column with their voices, both encouraging and discouraging others to pick up a book. So what have we learned? We learned that giving kids a voice matters. Some of the books the kids reviewed were already high circulators, but some were fairly unknown. They are unknown no more. Those books needed the right voice to sing their praises and that voice was not mine.
So come and review your favorite book. Grab a carefully chosen yellow Post-it and some tape and add your voice to the chorus! |
